We accept donations of clean plastic, sorted by type. Donations can be made by appointment at our studio in the South Bronx. We can also arrange pickup, but we charge for this service based on material quantity and location. We DO NOT accept unidentified plastic, #3 PVC, bags of mixed plastic, or particularly dirty items. Reach out for a donation appointment or to arrange pickup! For bulk donation or if you are a business/brand/company, please send us an email. We'd love to help strategize larger scale solutions!
Although its designation is number one, it is not our highest priority for reclamation as it is heavily recycled due to its CRV value and the newly passed Minimum Recycled Content Laws for packaging. We do, however, get a lot of this material in the form of 3D printing waste.
High density polyethelene is a low toxicity plastic that is great to work with and comes in a wide variety of eye-catching colors. As a bonus, laundry detergent bottles smell great and are rarely recycled by laundromats because they have to pay for commercial carting.
Often found in films and bags, LDPE is rarely recycled and offers many attractive material properties. Bags and films often end in landfill because they are difficult to process.
It may be designated #5, but it is #1 in our book! Polypropylene is our favorite plastic to work with. Most of the hard plastic items in the world are made from PP. While normal recycling systems capture a lot, it has no CRV and is often used for food containers, therefore the majority still ends up in the trash.
Usually, the first thought of polystyrene is the ubiquitous white foam which has thankfully been banned in most of the USA. It is also used in clear food containers which are so often trashed.
#7 is every other kind of plastic that isn't #1-6. We don't work with regular waste from this category but we DO work with 3D printing waste- PLA in particular. If you have waste prints or Bambu poop that is mono-material, we'll take it!
